General ADAT Questions and Answers

Can I have more than one soundcard in my computer AND have the PCR card installed?
While technically you can, it is not recommended. You may experience a blue-screen crash with an Illegal Operation message ("in mmsystem.dll"). You may not see any conflicts in your Device Manager, but Windows may have a problem with detecting more than one card.

I am using a SOUNDBLASTER LIVE card. When I try to use the card in ADAT/EDIT, I get loud noise from my multimedia speakers. Why?
The Soundblaster Live card does not support what is called "8X Interleave" mode, which is what ADAT/Edit uses for multitrack recording. You will need to go into your WINDOWS REGISTRY to change a setting. This only needs to be done once, but be careful! An incorrect setting may negatively affect your computer's performance! Follow these directions exactly!

  1. Go to START / RUN.
  2. Type in REGEDIT.
  3. Click the + sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
  4. Click the + sign next to SOFTWARE.
  5. Click the + sign next to Emagic.
  6. Click the + sign next to PAD32.
  7. Click the + sign next to Wave Out.
  8. Highlight SOUNDBLASTER LIVE.
  9. On the right side of the screen, double-click INTERLEAVE.
  10. Change the "8" to "2".
  11. Click OK
  12. Close REGEDIT.

When I start ADAT/Connect or ADAT/Edit, my ADAT keeps trying to re-ID itself. What's wrong?
Do not connect both sync cables to the PCR card and the ADAT. In PCR Master Mode, you connect the Sync Out of the PCR card to the Sync In of the ADAT only.

In my PC's Device Manager, it says I have no hardware conflicts. But when I start ADAT/Connect or ADAT/Edit in my PC, my computer crashes. What should I do?
Unfortunately, Windows will not always see a conflict when programs are closed. Check your Device Manager to see if you have an IRQ conflict. The instructions on how to do this are in your ADAT/EDIT Owner's Manual, under Troubleshooting.

In my Mac I don't have transport controls from ADAT/Edit to my ADAT. Do I need OMS?
Yes, you do need OMS. A copy of the OMS application is included on the CDROM that came with your ADAT/Edit package.

I'm using Cubase VST on the PC, but there is a large delay in the audio playback. Why?
Cubase uses ASIO drivers, not the WAV drivers that the PCR card uses. We are currently developing an ASIO driver for the PC so that you can use VST with our card.

So what programs are compatible?
Any program that uses WAV drivers for the PC, or ASIO drivers for the Mac.

I have my PCR card as SLAVE, but I'm not using a 9-pin cable. Can I sync off the optical cable?
Absolutely. In the PC, go to your Start Menu/Settings/Control Panel/System/ Device Manager/Sound,Video and Game Controllers. Double click on ADATPCR. Click in the box that says "EXT SYNC". The PCR card is now deriving its digital clock from its Optical In jack.
