If you're experiencing crosstalk or performance issues with your Alesis DM6, then we can help! This article offers basic tips on how to get the absolute best performance from your Alesis DM6 drum kit. We'll review ways to minimize crosstalk between drum pads and set up your kit to realistically react to your playing.
You might not realize it, but where you have your kit set up can really influence how it reacts to your play. Everytime you hit a pad on your electronic drum kit, information needs to travel to the DM6 head unit before anything happens, so if your kit isn't easily resting on a solid surface you run the risk of intermittent communication between your pads and the DM6. Try to avoid setting up on fluffy carpets or uneven floors. Try to set your kit up on a flat, solid surface.
Just as your kit's location can affect its performance, it's also important to make sure everything is set up correctly. Double check your construction of the drum frame. It's acceptable for the armatures to have some give when you hit the pads, but not too much. Likewise, if everything is too tight it may cause unneccesary crosstalk or mistriggering between pads.
You can perform a factory reset on your DM6 by holding down the VALUE + and VALUE - buttons simultaneously while turning the module on. This will restore it's factor settings, erasing any recorded data or changes settings including User Kits, User Patters, and any volume, metronome, or Voice settings, which will return to their defaults.
If you still experience crosstriggering or are concerned about performance, the very last step should be to update your product's firmware. The download (with instructions) can be found below:
